Even though we've concentrated on the basics of naval warfare during the 1880-1945 era, there are still plenty of optional rules to cover stuff like salvo dispersion, defective ammunition, end-on and cross-deck gunfire, variable penetration, etc. What's your pleasure? Yep, there are 40 pages of game charts (in color) here to assist with everything from command ratings to collisions, minefields to morale checks, flooding to fuel consumption and air combat to depth charge attacks. Of course, most surface gunfire actions require just a few of those charts and they are organized so you can handle most surface actions with only 2 or 3 pages of game charts in front of you. It's a detailed system but anyone who thinks all the charts are necessary for every game is in for a big surprise! Continuing the SEEKRIEG tradition of in-depth information, the Data Tables provide reference data for radar, torpedoes, AA guns, aircraft and, of course, weather conditions. But hey, you probably don't want to know the time of sunrise, sunset, duration of twilight and length of day at latitude 73-degrees north during late December or even the probable wind direction, speed and sea state for the Solomon Islands in November. Why would anyone want to know that? Oh the pain of doing away with a point-based damage system! It's just terrible when a shell hit that penetrates your armor knocks out one of your four engine rooms, or trashes the officer's quarters on its way to your main battery plotting room, or starts a fire in your starboard secondary battery magazine, or flooding causes progressive electrical and system failures during the next few game turns. If this kind of realism appeals to you, you're ready for SEEKRIEG 5, Sir!. The CD-ROM contains lots of stuff for running the 14 scenarios included with the game. It's all in Acrobat PDF format so you can reprint them as needed. Of course, you probably won't need reprintable ship logs, a scenario map or Order of Battle for the the British and Italian forces at the Battle of Spartivento. Even having a reprintable operations log for land or carrier based aircraft ops is just completely unnecessary for the World War 2 era battles in the Pacific, right? Why would anyone be interested in a CD-ROM containing reprintable ship logs for, say, HMS MAJESTIC circa 1908-1911? How about a merchant ship log for the Norwegian freighter TROUBADOUR from Convoy PQ17? Perhaps a flag command card decorated with the flag of the Brazilian Navy in 1889 is more to your liking?
