We've also included links to web sites offering naval miniatures since naval miniatures are truly our link to the vicarious reality we seek. Regardless of whether we use them in battle or display them on a shelf, they offer each of us an outlet for our creative talents as both artist and historian. We salute those companies and individuals that strive to produce these miniature works of art. Without them we would all still be using cardboard counters on hexagonal grids. It is a virtual treasure-trove of information on the subject and is well organized, regulary updated and has information you just won't find any other place. UNITED STATES NAVAL INSTITUTE The United States Naval Institute is probably the foremost publisher of books related to naval history. Founded in 1873 and publishing the monthly periodical PROCEEDINGS and the quarterly NAVAL HISTORY, the USNI is easily the single source for books and other information. Membership also entitles you to book and photo discounts. INTERNATIONAL NAVAL RESEARCH ORGANIZATION The International Naval Research Organization (INRO) publishes WARSHIP INTERNATIONAL, a quarterly magazine devoted to naval history and a veritable goldmine of information that is often not found anywhere else. Special photo, information and foreign book services are available to members. If you're serious about naval history and current events, this is a great place to start. NAVIES IN TRANSITION This is an excellent web site for those interested in all the goings on during the years when navies of the world were making the transition from sail to steam (1837-1914).
